10/19/2010

Jonathan Huang, a freshman at Suffolk University, has received the Waterman-Waring-Langone Scholarship, an award that encourages students to become well-versed in their heritage and to contribute to the growth of the Chinese American community. Huang was one of two recipients in the state awarded in the incoming freshman category.

Huang plans to major in economics and political science, and said that "the scholarship means new opportunities that will connect me with the Chinatown community."

Huang is a martial arts instructor at Nam Pai Kung Fu Academy in Boston's Chinatown, and has launched a martial arts program in Randolph's recreational department.

The Chinese Historical Society of New England/Waterman-Waring-Langone Scholarship was established in 1994 and is supported by the Boston Harborside Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons-Waring-Langone Funeral Home.
