Barton to chair license board

Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy recently appointed Patricia Barton to serve as chairwoman of the License Commission. Barton, a lifelong Lynn resident, becomes the first woman to head the board. She replaces John Pace, whose term had expired. Barton retired in 2007 after 35 years working for the Lynn public schools, including 15 as a vice principal and principal, and 20 as an English teacher. A former chairwoman of the Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development board of commissioners, she has also served on the board of the Community Minority Cultural Center in Lynn, which her late mother, Virginia, cofounded. Barton is a graduate of Lynn English High School — which inducted her into its hall of fame in 2007 — and New England College. She earned her master’s degree in secondary education from Suffolk University. -- Boston Globe, October 10, 2010
