The Communication and Journalism Department 's Film Series together with the Rosenberg Institute for East Asian Studies presents a film screening of Maborosi, with comments by Dr. Arthur Nolletti Jr.  Koreeda's award-winning first feature film, Maborosi (1995) deals with the struggle of a young wife (exquisitely played by Esumi Makiko) to come to terms with the mysterious death of her husband.  Haunted by her loss and overcome by feelings of loneliness, she must decide whether to believe in the future.  A deeply moving film, its title refers to the phantom or false light, the mirage or illusions, that all human beings must face and overcome.
