The Underground Railway Theater, in collaboration with The Providence Black Repertory Company, presents the East Coast premiere of Harriet Jacobs, one woman's resistance to oppression.  To escape a predatory master, Harriet Jacobs hid in a crawlspace for seven years before eventually escaping to Cambridge, MA.  The film is by Lydia R. Diamond, inspired by Jacobs' Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, and directed by Megan Sandberg-Zakian.  Following the Jan. 21 performance, a discussion will be moderated by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Distinguished Professor of History, Kenneth S. Greenberg.
