Dr. Gerald Peary is a Professor of Communications and Journalism, having taught since 1981 a variety of courses in arts journalism and film studies. He has been a weekly film critic for the Boston Phoenix since 1996. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia, and the Acting Curator of the Harvard Film Archive. He has attended film festivals around the world, often serving as president of the critics jury in such places as Bangkok, Rotterdam, Mexico City, Karlovy Vary (Czech Repubiic), Turin (Italy). He has been a programmer for the Vancouver Film Festival and the Buenos Aires Independent Festival. He is an elected member of the Boston Society of Film Critics, the National Society of Film Critics, and FIPRECI, the international critics organization. He is the author of seven books on cinema, and of many hundreds of arts articles in newspapers, magazines, and books, written over thirty years.
