New Book from Poetry Center Director Fred Marchant

English Professor Fred Marchant's fourth collection of poetry, The Looking House, traverses the landscape of war -- both wars fought on the ground and those within the human psyche.

Marchant directs the University's Poetry Center and its Creative Writing Program.

His previous poetry collections are Tipping Point, which received the 1993 Washington Prize in poetry; Full Moon Boat, and House on Water, House in Air: New and Selected Poems.

He worked with Nguyen Ba Chung to translate From a Corner of My Yard, a collection of poems by the contemporary Vietnamese poet Tran Dang Khoa.

Marchant's ties to southeast Asia date from the Vietnam  war era, when he was one of the first Marine officers to be honorably discharged as a conscientious objector.
