The Theatre Department’s first Dance Day will showcase the work of students in a choreography class launched this year.

Dance Day, to be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the Studio Theatre, follows in the tradition of Play Day, when student playwrights showcase their work.

The Theatre Department’s dance program has been growing steadily, and the department offers a concentration in Dance.

To expand the scope of the Dance program, longtime dance instructor Dawn Davis-Loring offered the Student Dance Workshop, a small choreography seminar, this spring.

Each of her four students will showcase one of the pieces developed in the workshop, using the talents of other student dancers.

“I'm really excited about my students participating in the first Dance Day,” says Davis-Loring. “Throughout the semester, they have been experiencing a real-world project involving the creation and preparation of several dances for performance.”

They also will present a piece choreographed by Davis-Loring.

The performances will be followed by a short question-and-answer session.
