Four student-athletes earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference Weekly Honors for the start of the spring season this week.
Suffolk Men's Tennis was victorious on Saturday against Norwich University, 8-1. Senior Garrett Freeman (Beacon, NY) was named GNAC Player of the Week for his efforts, and freshman Christopher Staley (London, England) earned Rookie of the Week Honors. Both Staley and Freeman, were 2-0 in match play this week, as they were victorious in both singles and doubles play.
Freeman was victorious 6-1, 6-0 in the 5 singles position for Suffolk and partnered with Diego Alvarado in the 1 doubles position for a 8-5 win. Staley was victorious 6-1, 6-4 in the 2 singles position for Suffolk and partnered with Jared Orkin in the 2 doubles position for a 8-5 victory.
Two Suffolk University Baseball players were also recognized, as the Rams went 7-3 on their annual spring trip. Junior Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) was named GNAC Player of the Week, and senior Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) was named Pitcher of the Week.
Barrett led Suffolk with 18 RBI, 2 home runs as he slugged .683 on the week. Barrett was 4-5 with 6 RBI in Sunday's win over Hamilton and also had a 4-4 game on Thursday including a 3-run home run and a 2-run double over Westfield State. Doyle went 2-0 on the week defeating Ripon College (WI) and Hamilton College (NY). Doyle went 8 innings to lead the Rams to a 4-1 victory over Ripon on Tuesday, and picked up the win Sunday allowing 1 run over 6 innings of work against Hamilton.
