Ford Hall Forum Presents Gwen Ifill

Journalist Gwen Ifill is the lead-off speaker for the spring 2009 lecture series to be presented by the Ford Hall Forum at Suffolk University from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Old South Meeting House, 310 Washington St., Boston.

Ifill is the moderator and managing editor of  "Washington Week," senior correspondent for "NewsHour," and author of The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.

Journalist Callie Crossley, a regular panelist on the WGBH-TV program "Beat the Press," will serve as moderator.

The Ford Hall Forum will present Ifill with the 2009 Louis P. and Evelyn Smith First Amendment Award.

This award honors individuals or organizations that demonstrate extraordinary commitment to promoting and facilitating the thoughtful exercise of our right to freedom of expression. Previous recipients include, among others, Rosa Parks, Pete Seeger, Maya Angelou, Anita F. Hill, and Daniel Schorr.

The Ford Hall Forum is the nation’s oldest free public lecture series. It promotes freedom of speech and fosters an informed and effective citizenry through events that illuminate the key issues facing our society.

The Forum presents knowledgeable and thought-provoking speakers, including some of the most controversial opinion leaders of our times, in settings that facilitate frank and open debate.
