Disablility And Education Laws Symposium

ADA lawyer headlines higher education conference

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009
Suffolk University Law School
120 Tremont Street, Boston

Salome Heyward, a nationally recognized ADA lawyer with over 30 years of experience working with colleges and universities, will headline a symposium on hot topics in disability law and related legislation for higher education. The Disability and Education Laws Symposium is sponsored by the Suffolk Law School Dean of Students Office.

Recently Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act which took effect on Jan. 1, 2009, a new GI bill with significant support for disabled veterans, and the Higher Education Opportunity Act.  In addition, the Department of Justice is proposing updates to the ADA's Titles II and III regulations.   The number of students requesting services continues to increase and the type of student population is changing to include more students with mental health issues, chronic illnesses, and other health and medical conditions.  This full day symposium will provide participants with an understanding of these new laws.
