Mock Trial Team Takes First Place at Buffalo Invitational

The Suffolk University Mock Trial Team-A took first place at the University at Buffalo Mock Trial Invitational, successfully arguing Walton v. Blitz News Network, a civil case dealing with defamation.

Team members also earned individual honors at the competition.  Alexander Rittershaus received the best attorney award and Alaina Spaziani was named best witness.

The other schools competing in the Invitational were Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Seton Hall, Canisius College, University at Buffalo, Case Western, and the University of Connecticut.

KyQuan Phong, team captain and president of the Suffolk University Mock Trial Team, said: “This victory is a great milestone for our team.  We’ve competed in the past, but for us to start the year with a bang like this encourages us to maintain the momentum until regionals in February and hopefully nationals in April.”

The members of the Suffolk University Mock Trial Team-A are: Kyle Brach, Katia DeStefano, secretary of the team; James Duffy; Colin Hansen; and Alexander Rittershaus, vice president; KyQuan Phong, president; and Alaina Spaziani.

Also participating in the invitational were the members of Mock Trial Team-B: Beckee Birger; Danica Bybell; Emma Doyle; Samantha Gray; Patrick Pilette; Allison Poyser; Louis Rocco; Noel Smith; and Jack Thaler.
