Benesh honored at women's soccer victory

Freshman Leslie Hayden (Ross, California) stole the show on senior night as she scored three goals against Mount Ida College (1-6 GNAC, 3-8-1 overall) en route to a 4-0 victory for the Suffolk University women’s soccer (3-6 GNAC, 4-7 overall) squad at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Massachusetts, Wednesday. Hayden now has 14 goals on the year.

Freshman Meghan O’Connell (Abington, MA) got Suffolk started off on the right foot with an unassisted goal in the 7th minute. Hayden took over from that point on, netting two big goals in the first half.

Hayden’s first goal of the night came on a penalty kick attempt in the 23rd minute to make it a 2-0 game. She added another unassisted goal in the 30th minute to give the Rams a 3-0 lead at the break. Hayden later capped off her team’s final home game of the season with a header in the 46th minute to make it a 4-0 game. Sophomore Emma Lobozzo (New Gloucester, ME) picked up the assist.

As part of senior night, the Rams, led by Athletic Director James Nelson, honored Suffolk’s lone senior and co-captain Meghann Benesh (Miller Place, NY) with flowers in a pre-game ceremony.

Emily Joyce (Easton, MA) tallied five saves in her team’s first home win of the season. Meghan Begins earned two saves for Mount Ida. Suffolk out shot the Mustangs 11-8.

Suffolk will take on Lasell Saturday at noon in the first of three road games to finish out the regular season.
