Rams Take 4-2 Win Over JWU In Men's Soccer

Danny Lloyd, a freshman from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, had a goal and two assists to give the Suffolk University men’s soccer team a 4-2 win over visiting Johnson and Wales University (0-3 GNAC, 1-8 overall) Wednesday at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Massachusetts. It was the first win at home this season for the Rams.

Lloyd had four first-half shots on goal as the midfield. The freshman connected on a Clayton Plumer (Senior, Cranston, RI) assist from midfield to give the Rams an early 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute.

Lloyd later added his first assist when he set up Christian Palacios (Senior, Lexington, MA) for an easy opportunity in front of the net in the 39th minute and the Rams had a 2-0 lead at the half.

The Wildcats struck first in the second half when Edwin Sojos’ shot hit the bottom of the cross bar and landed over the goal line in the 62nd minute.

Fortunately for the Rams, Lloyd wasn’t finished as his cross in the 66th minute found Nick Celia (Junior, Hanson, Ma) in front of the net to make it a 3-1 contest.

The Rams capped off their winning afternoon in the 74th minute when Eric Zettervall’s (Senior, Colchester, CT) penalty kick attempt rebounded off Wildcat goalkeeper Chris Vasquez and into the foot of Bernhard Lotterer (Junior, Lima, Peru) to make it a 4-1 score.

Scott Kirchner added Johnson and Wales’ second goal of the game three minutes later thanks to an assist from Sojos to make it a 4-2 final.

Nick Woodhull (Freshman, Honolulu, HI) had five saves in the win. Chris Vasquez finished with nine saves in 77 minutes of play for the Wildcats. Joe Ferraro ended the final 13 minutes with five saves.

The Rams (1-1 GNAC, 2-5 overall)  head up to Norwich University in Vermont Saturday at 1:00 pm for their next game.
