The Suffolk University Men’s Soccer team (1-3 overall) dropped its home opener to non-conference opponent Framingham State (5-0 overall) 3-0 Wednesday at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Massachusetts.
Framingham fired 15 first-half shots in the direction of Suffolk’s freshman goalkeeper Carlo Gutierrez (Laredo, TX) who made five saves in the half. Framingham State was able to convert on two goals to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Scott Faria put Framingham on the board in the 21st minute thanks to an assist from Rob O’Doherty when his shot trickled through the hands of Gutierrez. With the momentum on Framingham’s side, Johnny Goncalves quickly made it a 2-0 game less than two minutes later off a corner kick from Jared Curry who received an assist on the play.
Suffolk came out aggressive in the second half as it outshot Framingham State 9-6 in the half. Framingham added one more goal however, when Mike Jones sent home a Jason Silva pass in the 53rd minute to make it a 3-0 game.
Framingham State out shot Suffolk 21-11 for the game. Greg Halle finished with two saves for Framingham. Suffolk freshman goalkeeper Nick Woodhull (Honolulu, HI) stopped two shots in relief of Gutierrez.
Suffolk will look to get back on track when they take on Amherst Sunday night at 6 p.m. in another non-conference game at Dilboy Stadium.
