Boston, Mass.-- Andrius Zeikus, who has served as Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Suffolk for the past two seasons, has been promoted to the position of Head Men’s Soccer Coach at the University, effective immediately. Zeikus’s appointment was confirmed today by James E. Nelson, Suffolk’s Director of Athletics.
A resident of Somerville, Mass., Zeikus has helped guide Suffolk to 19 victories since 2006, including back-to-back berths in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semi-finals as well as the program’s first-ever ECAC post-season appearance in 2006. Zeikus has helped coach four all-GNAC performers over that time period and takes over for Nick Papadopoulos, who led the Rams to 61 victories during his seven year tenure and will remain with the program as Advisor and Recruiting Coordinator.
“I am extremely pleased to promote Andrius to the position as our head coach,” Nelson says of Zeikus. “He has demonstrated great organizational and leadership skills during his tenure as an assistant with the program, and I am very confident that he will lead us to continued success in the future.”
A 2004 graduate of Husson College, Zeikus earned a Master’s degree from Suffolk in 2006 and is a candidate for a Doctorate in Education from Boston University. He has previous coaching experience at both Boston English High School and the Boston Latin School and works full-time as a personal trainer at Vim Fitness in Cambridge, Mass.
“I am very excited to be at the helm of a very successful program here at the University,” Zeikus says of his appointment. “I think Coach Papadopoulos has done a tremendous job and I wish to continue the winning tradition at Suffolk.”
Zeikus and the Rams begin the 2008 campaign on Saturday, September 6th when Suffolk visits Eastern Nazarene for a non-league match in Quincy, Mass. that begins at 5:30 p.m. EDT.
