FINAL: SUFFOLK 3, ENDICOTT 2
BEVERLY, Mass.-- Junior Tim Doyle (Milton, Mass.) scattered seven hits and allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings of work as Suffolk extended its winning streak to four straight with a 3-2 non-league college baseball victory over Endicott Wednesday afternoon at North Field.
Sophomore Mike Kenneally (Georgetown, Mass.) staked the visiting Rams (29-10), who have won six of their last seven and eight of their last 10 outings overall, to a 1-0 third inning lead with his third home run of the season, and Suffolk plated two more runs in the fifth on an error and an RBI groundout by sophomore Jose Alejandro (Lowell, Mass.). The host Gulls, who end their season at 19-21 overall, received both of their RBI from sophomore Andrew Betts (Bristol, Conn.), who rapped out a run-scoring groundout in the bottom of the fifth and added an RBI single in the seventh to close out the scoring. Endicott had the tying run on first in the ninth, but senior Greg DiMarco (Newton, Mass.), who pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and fanned three to pick up his fifth save, enduced a pair of groundouts to end the contest.
Sophomore Bobby Barrett (Milton, Mass.) collected the other hit of the afternoon for the Rams with a fifth inning single, while freshman Mike Barbati (Melrose, Mass.) rapped out two hits in the setback for the Gulls. Graduate student Erik Fields (Swampscott, Mass.) allowed both of the visitors’ hits and struck out three in four innings of work to take the loss on the mound for Endicott.
Suffolk closes out its regular season slate on Thursday afternoon by heading to Standish, Maine for a non-league doubleheader with Saint Joseph’s (Maine) that begins at 1:00 p.m.
