QUINCY, Mass.--  Seniors Nick Martinho (Middleton, Mass.) and Greg DiMarco (Newton, Mass.) each went 4-for-4 and combined to drive in seven runs to lead Suffolk to an 8-5 non-league college baseball victory over MIT Monday evening at Adams Field.

The host Rams (28-10) jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead on Martinho’s two-run double, and after the visiting Engineers (18-18) got a run back in the third on an RBI single off the bat of junior Steven Nunez (Tulare, Calif.), an RBI triple by DiMarco that was followed by a Martinho run-scoring double in the bottom of the frame extended Suffolk’s advantage to 4-1.  DiMarco singled home his second run in the night in the fourth for a 5-1 Ram edge, and after MIT pushed across a tally in the sixth when junior David Nole (Torrington, Conn.) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Ryne Barry (Phoenix, Ariz.), the hosts grabbed a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the inning when sophomore Jose Alejandro (Lowell, Mass.) tripled and scored on a groundout before DiMarco doubled and scored on Martinho’s two-out single.

The Engineers pulled to within a pair (7-5) after plating three runs in the eighth, as senior Kevin Wheeler (Tucson, Ariz.) doubled and scored on a wild pitch before a pinch-hit two-run single by freshman William Blackman (Calabasas, Calif.) capped the MIT scoring, and Suffolk added a key insurance run in the bottom of the frame when sophomore Tim Corcoran (Beverly, Mass.) hit a two-out double and scored on DiMarco’s fourth hit, an RBI single, to close out the scoring.  DiMarco came on to pick up a pair of strikeouts in the ninth that sandwiched a Nunez single to record his fourth save of the spring, as junior Reid Jackson (Burlington, Mass.) scattered eight hits and struck out five over 7 2/3 innings of work to improve to 5-1 on the season for the hosts.

Martinho and DiMarco combined for eight of Suffolk’s 13 hits on the evening, while Corcoran and junior Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, Mass.) added two hits each for the Rams, who have won three straight and five of their last six outings overall.  Nunez, Wheeler, Nole and Barry each had two hits as part of a 10-hit attack for MIT, as junior Matt Loper (Huntington Beach, Calif.) allowed four hits and three earned runs over the first three innings to fall to 3-2 on the season.

Suffolk heads to Beverly, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Endicott in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while MIT closes out its 2008 campaign by traveling to Fitchburg, Mass. to take on Fitchburg State in a non-league contest that also begins at 4:00 p.m.
