FINAL:  SUFFOLK 5, EMERSON 2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--  Senior Chris Delisi’s (Gloucester, Mass.) come-from-behind three-set victory at number two singles provided the clinching point and lifted second-seeded Suffolk to a 5-2 triumph over third-seeded Emerson in semi-final round play of the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championships Thursday evening on the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Courts.

The host Rams, now 8-4 overall on the season, advance to take on top-seeded Johnson & Wales for the 2008 Great Northeast championship on Saturday evening at the Weymouth Tennis Club in Weymouth, Mass. beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The Wildcats advanced to the title match with a 7-2 victory over fourth-seeded Norwich in Thursday’s other semi-final round contest.

Suffolk, which will make its first-ever appearance in the Great Northeast championship match, grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as the tandem of Delisi and senior Pedro Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a 9-7 win at the number one spot while the duo of sophomore Jared Orkin (Newton, Mass.) and freshman John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) were 8-3 victory at the number three position.  Orkin and freshman Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, N.Y.) claimed straight set victories at the number three and four singles spots, respectively, and Delisi won the final two sets of his contest at the number two position after dropping a 6-2 opening set decision to clinch the Rams’ triumph.

Sophomore Allesandro Bellino (Brisbane, Australia) notched a straight set win at number one singles in the setback for the visiting Lions, who close out their season at 5-5 overall.  The tandem of freshman Garrett Mercer (Arlington, Va.) and sophomore Ricardo Galvan (Mexico City, Mexico) collected Emerson’s other point of the evening with a 9-8 (7-4 in the tiebreaker) triumph at number two doubles.

Suffolk will look to avenge a 6-3 regular season setback suffered to Johnson & Wales back on March 11th in Providence, R.I.
