BOSTON, Mass.--  Senior Jenna Mourey (Rochester, N.Y.) scattered nine hits over 10 innings of work on the mound while adding four hits and three RBI at the plate as Suffolk closed out regular season play by sweeping a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Albertus Magnus by identical 11-1 finals Sunday afternoon at Puopolo Field.

Junior Ashley Gaboriault (Sutton, Mass.) added three hits and drove in six runs for the host Rams, who improve to 17-19 overall and finish 16-10 in Great Northeast play.  Suffolk clinched a berth in the upcoming conference tournament with the triumphs, as the Rams will play either Saint Joseph (Conn.) or Rivier in first round action on Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first inning of the opener on Mourey’s double and a two-run two-bagger off the bat of Gaboriault, and the Rams took control of the contest with a seven-run outburst in the third that included a pair of two-run singles by Gaboriault and freshman Monica Cioffi (East Boston, Mass.) as well as RBI safeties by junior Kellie Hurlock (East Lyme, Conn.) and freshman Jacky Swift (Cranston, R.I.).  A throwing error in the fourth enabled Mourey to plate the final run of the first contest for the hosts, as sophomore Stephanie Lapre’s (Branford, Conn.) RBI single in the fifth accounted for the lone run of the opener for the visiting Falcons, who finish at 2-27 overall and 1-23 in Great Northeast play.  Mourey collected three hits at the plate and allowed just four on the mound for Suffolk, fanning four along the way to pick up her ninth win of the season.  Gaboriault finished with a pair of hits and four RBI for the hosts, who also received two hits each off the bats of junior Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Kehlenbach (Bethany, Conn.).  Lapre had two hits in the opening setback for Albertus Magnus, as senior Meredith Berry (Meriden, Conn.) allowed just two earned runs in suffering the loss.

The Rams again grabbed a 3-0 advantage in the nightcap, plating a pair in the first on Gaboriault’s two-run single and one in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Ferreira, who reached base in all six of her plate appearances on the day.  Suffolk used an eight-run fourth inning to ice its triumph, as Mourey’s two-run single, coupled with RBI efforts from Ferreira, Hurlock, junior Marie Trainor (Winthrop, Mass.) and sophomore Erin O’Donnell (Groton, Mass.) closed out the hosts’ scoring.  Lapre scored the lone Falcon run of the nightcap on an RBI single off the bat of senior Erin Blake (West Haven, Conn.), as the duo combined for four of the visitors’ five hits in the second outing.  Cioffi and Hurlock each had two hits in the nightcap triumph for the Rams, as Mourey scattered five hits and fanned eight for her 10th victory of the season.  Senior Jessica Zanghi (Milford, Conn.) allowed five hits and struck out three over 3 1/3 innings in the second game setback for Albertus Magnus.
