NORTHFIELD, Vt.-- Freshmen John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) and Nick Pratt (Sutton, Mass.) each posted wins in both singles and doubles play to lift Suffolk to a 7-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s tennis dual-match victory over Norwich Saturday afternoon at the Shapiro Fieldhouse.
Samander, Pratt, senior Chris Delisi (Gloucester, Mass.), junior Greg Garrison (Beacon, N.Y.) and freshman Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were all straight-set winners in singles play for the visiting Rams (5-4, 2-1 Great Northeast), as Samander teamed up with junior Nisarg Patel (Chelsea, Mass.), the reigning Great Northeast Player of the Week, for an 8-2 triumph at number two doubles. Pratt and fellow freshman Mike DeMoranville (Somerset, Mass.) picked up the final Suffolk point of the day with an 8-1 victory at the number three doubles position.
Junior Peter Hooper (Spartanburg, N.C.) was a winner in both singles and doubles action in the setback for the host Cadets (6-3, 1-2 Great Northeast), as he was a straight set victory at number one singles and teamed up with sophomore Travis Tyler (Rowley, Mass.) for an 8-6 win at the number one doubles spot.
Suffolk can clinch second place in the final Great Northeast regular season standings on Sunday afternoon when the Rams entertain Albertus Magnus in a league dual-match on the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Courts beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Norwich hosts Emerson in a Great Northeast outing on Sunday afternoon at the Shapiro Fieldhouse that also begins at 1:00 p.m.
