KISSIMMEE, Fla.--  The Suffolk softball team began the 2008 season on Monday morning by dropping a pair of non-league contests at the Rebel Spring Games to Bethany (W. Va.) (4-1) and Utica (6-0) in action at the Osceola County Softball Complex.

Junior Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, Mass.) plated the lone run of the day for the Rams (0-2) by stealing home in the opening contest against Bethany, as both she and freshman Jessica Kehlenbach (Bethany, Conn.) each rapped out doubles in the setback.  Ferreira went the distance on the mound as well in the contest for Suffolk, which also received a single off the bat of junior Marie Trainor (Winthrop, Mass.).

Utica broke open the nightcap by plating a pair of runs each in the fourth and fifth frames, as junior Rebecca Schalit (Miami, Fla.) rapped out a pair of hits in the setback for the Rams, who also received a double from sophomore Angela Cole (Plainville, Mass.) as well as hits from junior Ashley Gaboriault (Sutton, Mass.) and freshman Gina Spadafora (Malden, Mass.).

Suffolk continues play at the 2008 Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday morning, as the Rams will face Hope (Mich.) in the opener at 9:00 a.m. before battling Wisconsin-River Falls in the nightcap at 1:00 p.m., as both games will be played at the Osceola County Softball Complex.
