Men's Tennis To Kick Off Spring Sports Season Wednesday Evening By Hosting WNEC

The 2008 Suffolk spring season officially kicks off on Wednesday evening when the Ram men’s tennis squad hosts Western New England in a non-league dual-match on the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Courts in Cambridge, Mass. beginning at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

Fifth-year Head Coach Steve Counihan welcomes back a veteran group this spring, as Suffolk posted an overall mark of 8-3 in 2007 and finished second in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action, winning four of five league contests along the way.

Seniors Pedro Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Chris Delisi (Gloucester, Mass.) will lead the way for the Rams once again this spring after earning all-GNAC honors in 2007.  The duo notched a combined 14-4 mark in singles play last season and combined to win 14 of 15 doubles contests, including a perfect 5-0 GNAC slate.

Counihan is looking for the same magic he helped generate for the Suffolk women’s program last fall, as the Rams posted a perfect 14-0 mark en route to their first-ever GNAC regular season and tournament titles and a berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships.
