• Graduate Student Elected to Massachusetts House of Representatives

Sean Garballey is headed to the Massachusetts Legislature, having won a March 4 special election in the 23rd Middlesex House district.

Garballey, 23, of Arlington, is a graduate student enrolled in the Master's in Public Administration (MPA) and MS in Political Science joint degree program. This unique program is offered jointly by the Sawyer Business School and College of Arts and Sciences

"Sean joins a long line of Suffolk MPA students who have been elected to office." said Richard H. Beinecke, Associate Professor of Public Administration

This was not Garballey’s first run for office. At 18 he was elected to Arlington Town Meeting, and at 20 to the town’s School Committee. He continues to serve in both positions.

Garballey, who ran on a slogan of “Integrity and Commitment” will take the House of Representatives seat formerly held by J. James Marzilli, Jr. The district  includes sections of Medford and Arlington.
