FINAL:  CURRY 7, SUFFOLK 3

BOSTON, Mass.--  Juniors Jeffrey Hazelwood (Dublin, Calif.) and Justin Liut (Birmingham, Mich.), along with sophomore Ross Enmark (Shelby Township, Mich.), each netted a goal and an assist as Curry clinched its third ECAC Northeast ice hockey regular season title in five years with a 6-3 league victory over Suffolk Tuesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

The visiting Colonels (15-8-1, 13-1-1 ECAC Northeast) scored four goals in the first 18 minutes of play to take control of the contest, as markers off the sticks of Hazelwood, Enmark and sophomores Mark Cerretani (North Andover, Mass.) and Sean Sylvester (Randolph, N.J.) helped stake Curry to a 4-1 advantage after 20 minutes of action.  A pair of goals by senior Dan Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) late in the first stanza and early in the second enabled the host Rams (10-13, 8-6 ECAC Northeast) to close back to within two just over a minute into the middle frame, but Liut’s unassisted tally 15 seconds later extended the visitors’ edge to 5-2.  Juniors Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Louis Hoey (Doylestown, Pa.) traded goals for Suffolk and Curry, respectively, in a 4:17 stretch for a 6-3 Colonel lead after two, and sophomore Jarrett Rush’s (Pennington, N.J.) goal 5:29 into the final period closed out the scoring for the visitors.

Senior Trevor Spiridi (Cranston, R.I.), junior James Pentecost (Marquette, Mich.), sophomore Steven Murphy (Anchorage, Ak.) and freshmen Jason Yuel (Winnipeg, Man.) and Sean Mahoney (Canton, Mass.) each added single assists in the win for Curry, while Cook netted a pair of helpers to join Pencinger with three points each in the setback for Suffolk, which also received an assist off the stick of senior Tim Dancey (Anaheim, Calif.).

Sophomore Steve Jakiel (Santa Clarita, Calif.) picked up the win in goal for Curry with an 18-save effort, while freshman Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) made 25 stops in 50-plus minutes of play between the pipes for Suffolk, which also received 12 saves from sophomore Bill Gilbert (Forestdale, Mass.) in the final 9:09 of action.  The Colonels outshot the Rams by a 47-21 margin for the contest.

Suffolk will be idle until next Monday evening when the Rams host Southern New Hampshire in an ECAC Northeast outing that faces off at 7:00 p.m., while Curry closes out its ECAC Northeast regular season by entertaining Assumption in a league match-up on Saturday afternoon in Milton, Mass. beginning at 4:35 p.m.
