NASHUA, N.H.-- Senior Katie Castignetti (Braintree, Mass.) scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and recorded six steals as Suffolk ran its winning streak to three straight with a 62-44 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory over Daniel Webster Saturday afternoon at Vagge Gymnasium.
The visiting Rams (16-6, 9-2 Great Northeast), winners of 13 of their last 15 contests dating back to December 8th, scored 18 points off of 26 turnovers committed by the host Eagles (9-14, 2-10 Great Northeast) in the opening 20 minutes of play en route to a 33-12 advantage at the break, as Suffolk built its lead to as many as 28 points (50-24) after intermission.
Senior Stephanie Morrissey (Abington, Mass.) added 13 points and four rebounds in the triumph for the Rams, who also received eight points each from junior Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Stephanie Zito (Guilford, Conn.). Freshman Christie Iwanicki (Newtown, Conn.) chipped in with six points, four assists and three steals for the winners, who also received five points and five steals from junior Kerry Bowman (Guilford, Conn.). Suffolk shot 38 percent from the field and scored a total of 26 points off of 38 Daniel Webster turnovers (including 27 steals), and the Rams held a 16-4 scoring edge at the foul line as well as a 37-35 rebounding advantage for the contest.
Sophomore Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) scored 11 points in the setback for the Eagles, who also received 10 points and four steals from senior Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.). Freshman Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) netted eight points off the bench for the hosts, who also received six points from freshman Joyce Chagan (Boothbay, Maine) and six rebounds from sophomore Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.). Daniel Webster also shot 38 percent from the floor and canned four three-pointers for the afternoon.
Suffolk heads to Purchase, N.Y. on Monday afternoon to take on Manhattanville in a non-league outing that tips-off at 3:00 p.m., while Daniel Webster hosts Mitchell in a non-league match-up on Wednesday evening at Vagge Gymnasium that begins at 7:00 p.m.
