Ice Hockey Suffers First ECAC Northeast Setback In Dropping 2-1 Overtime Decision At Stonehill

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.--  Junior James Florentino’s (West Roxbury, Mass.) goal 2:34 into overtime lifted Stonehill to a 2-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Suffolk Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

Florentino converted a feed from fellow junior Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) on a 4-on-4 situation in netting the game-winner for the host Skyhawks (7-6-1, 6-4 ECAC Northeast), who have won five of their last six outings overall.  The two teams played scoreless hockey for over 41 minutes before junior Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) gave Stonehill a 1-0 lead 1:13 into the third stanza on an assist from senior Brian Davis (Foxboro, Mass.), but senior Tim Dancey (Anaheim, Calif.) evened matters for the visiting Rams (10-8, 8-1 ECAC Northeast) with 7:37 to play in regulation when he converted passes from senior Dan Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) and junior Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, Calif.) for a power play marker, setting up Florentino’s heroics in the extra session.

Freshman Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.) stopped 26 of 27 shots to pick up the win in goal for Stonehill, while freshman Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) made 39 saves in a game for the fifth time this season in the setback for Suffolk, which suffered its first setback in league play this winter.  The Skyhawks outshot the Rams by a 41-27 margin to avenge a 6-2 setback suffered in the season opener back on November 6th in Boston.

Suffolk hosts Western New England in an ECAC Northeast match-up on Wednesday evening at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Stonehill heads to Newport, R.I. on Sunday afternoon to take on Salve Regina in an ECAC Northeast outing that faces off at 4:30 p.m.
