BOSTON, Mass.--  Junior Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) notched her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds as Suffolk extended its winning streak to six straight with a 56-43 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory over Simmons Monday afternoon at Regan Gymnasium.

The host Rams (9-4, 4-0 Great Northeast) overcame an early six point deficit with a 12-4 run over a 5:12 stretch to take a 20-16 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore Stephanie Zito (Guilford, Conn.) with 5:29 remaining in the half and settled for a 26-23 advantage at the break, and after the visiting Sharks (4-11, 0-4 Great Northeast) had cut a seven-point deficit back to three (38-35) on a lay-in by junior Sarah Clayton (Falmouth, Mass.) with 13:22 to play, Suffolk ran off eight unanswered points to take control of the contest, as the hosts outscored Simmons by an 18-8 margin over the final 12-plus minutes of action.

Zito finished with 11 points and five rebounds in the triumph for the Rams, who also received eight points from junior Kerry Bowman (Guilford, Conn.) as well as seven points and six boards from senior Katie Castignetti (Braintree, Mass.).  Senior Gillian Brignac (Haverhill, Mass.) added six points for the winners, who also received six assists from senior Katlyn Klecha (Fairfield, Conn.) as well as five rebounds and three assists from senior Stephanie Morrissey (Abington, Mass.).  Suffolk, which has matched its longest winning streak since last February, overcame a 33 percent shooting effort from the field by converting 26 Shark turnovers into 29 points while holding a slim 44-43 rebounding edge.

Senior Nikki Cohen (Wellesley, Mass.) recorded a double-double effort of 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with four blocks in the setback for Simmons, which also received 11 points from Clayton.  Freshman Morgan Johnson (Waterbury, Conn.) added eight points for the visitors, who also received eight rebounds from sophomore Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) as the Sharks shot 35 percent from the field for the afternoon.

Suffolk heads to Standish, Maine on Wednesday evening to take on Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in a Great Northeast outing that tips-off at 5:30 p.m., while Simmons hosts Albertus Magnus in a Great Northeast match-up at the Holmes Center across town beginning at 7:00 p.m.
