Law School hosts workshop on distance education

The Suffolk University Law School Dean’s Office will host a  workshop on technology access and distance education featuring Ron Stewart, vice president of operations for Dolphin Computer Access. Stewart has consulted with more than 100 universities on technology access issues, lectures regularly, and leads several national initiatives focused on technology and higher education, including leadership roles as the technology adviser to AHEAD, (Association on Higher Education and Disability) and President of ATHEN (Access Technologist Higher Education Network).

9 - 10:45 a.m.  Technology Access Discussion

--Defining accessibility and areas to be addressed on campus (multimedia, library systems, Web sites, assistive technology, and course management systems)
--Legal requirements
--Cost issues and considerations
--Emerging solutions and developing an institutional plan

10:45 - 11 a.m.  Break

11a.m. - noon  Distance Education Discussion

Participants will learn to apply universal design principles, guidelines, and performance indicators to:
--curriculum and instruction to make all learning activities accessible to all students, including those with disabilities                                            
--policies and practices of online learning programs to ensure that courses are accessible to all students

An RSVP is required to ensure enough space and handouts.  The event is free, and light morning refreshments will be served.
