FINAL: WENTWORTH 78, SUFFOLK 63

BOSTON, Mass.--  Senior Emily Cring (Cicero, N.Y.) notched a double-double effort of 21 points and 21 rebounds to lead four players in double figures as Wentworth posted a 78-63 non-league college women’s basketball victory over Suffolk Thursday evening at Tansey Gymnasium.

The host Leopards (6-2) jumped out to an early 11 point advantage (21-10) just 7:45 into the contest, but the visiting Rams (3-4) netted eight unanswered points to close back to within three on a jumper by sophomore Stephanie Zito (Guilford, Conn.) with 8;31 to play in the half.  Wentworth then scored 21 of the final 29 points before intermission to grab a 42-26 edge at the break, as the Leopards extended that margin to as many as 18 points in the second half, with Suffolk getting no closer than 11 points in the closing minutes of action.

Sophomore Angela Tucker (Lynn, Mass.) added 17 first half points in the win for Wentworth, which also received a double-double effort of 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists from sophomore Michelle Fauci (Boxford, Mass.) as well as 15 points and eight boards from freshman Kirsten Vallone (Avon, N.Y.).  The Leopards connected for 11 three-pointers on the evening, including a combined eight from Tucker and Fauci, in holding a 33-3 scoring edge from behind the arc, as the hosts held a 60-35 rebounding advantage as well, converting 26 offensive rebounds into 22 second chance points.

Zito matched Cring for game-high scoring honors with 21 points and eight rebounds in the setback for Suffolk, which also received 12 points and five boards from senior Katie Castignetti (Braintree, Mass.).  Junior Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds for the rams, which also received six points from senior Stephanie Morrissey (Abington, Mass.) as the visitors shot just 34 percent from the field for the night but converted 23 turnovers into 24 points.

Suffolk closes out its first semester schedule on Saturday afternoon by heading to Framingham, Mass. to take on Framingham State in a non-league outing that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Mount Ida in a non-league match-up on Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium that also begins at 1:00.
