FINAL:  SUFFOLK 4, SALVE REGINA 1

BOSTON, Mass.--  Freshman Paul Weisser (Longmeadow, Mass.) netted a pair of goals, while fellow freshman Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) stopped 24 of 24 shots in net to lead Suffolk to a 4-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Salve Regina Tuesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

The host Rams (7-3, 5-0 ECAC Northeast), who have already matched their entire win total of last season in just 10 contests to date, jumped out to a 1-0 first period edge when Weisser converted feeds from senior Tim Dancey (Anaheim, Calif.) and sophomore Nick Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) just 4:46 into the contest, and Weisser extended Suffolk’s advantage to 2-0 2:17 into the middle stanza when he converted passes from Dancey and freshman Zach Scienzo (Concord, N.H.).  Junior Conor McCahill’s (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) power play goal at the 6:37 mark of the second period sliced the visiting Seahawks’ (3-6-2, 1-4-1 ECAC Northeast) in half, but junior Scott Zanolli (Tracy, Calif.) extended the hosts’ lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes of play by tallying with 6:28 to play in the period.  Senior Dan Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) added an insurance marker for the Rams with just under nine minutes remaining in the contest on a 4-on-4 situation to ice the triumph.

Dancey and Scienzo each picked up a pair of assists in the win for Suffolk, which also received single helpers off the sticks of senior Andrew Redvanly (Hillsdale, N.J.) as well as juniors John Rocchio (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Mitch Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif.).  Junior Jake Pickard (Wellfleet, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Trott (Rehoboth, Mass.) assisted on McCahill’s marker for Salve Regina.

Rose notched his seventh win of the season between the pipes for Suffolk, making 17 of his saves over the first two periods of action, while freshman Pat Enloe (Stuart, Fla.) made 31 stops in net for Salve Regina as the Rams outshot the Seahawks by a 35-25 margin, including a 19-7 edge in the final period alone.

Suffolk will take its second three-game winning streak of the season into its final pre-Christmas contest on Saturday evening when the Rams host Southern Maine in a non-league outing at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Salve Regina heads to Hartford, Conn. on Saturday afternoon to take on Trinity in a non-league contest at 3:00.
