NEWTON, Mass.-- Freshman Stephen Petrin (Vernon, Conn.) snapped a 2-2 tie with just under three minutes remaining to lift Lasell to a 4-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Suffolk Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field.
Junior Zach Gagne (Somerset, Mass.) had given the host Lasers (4-4, 2-1 Great Northeast) a 1-0 lead at the break with an unassisted tally in the 17th minute of play, but sophomore Peter Missouri (Moss, Germany) evened matters for the visiting Rams (3-3, 1-2 Great Northeast) with an unassisted marker of his own in the 58th minute. Junior Joseph Acuek (Lincoln, Mass.) gave Lasell the lead back at 2-1 in the 71st minute with an unassisted goal, but sophomore Nick Celia (Hanson, Mass.) forged another tie for Suffolk with his fourth tally of the season, an unassisted score with 6:18 remaining. Petrin then netted the game-winner for the hosts with 2:37 to play in the contest and gave the Lasers an insurance marker with 25 seconds remaining to account for the final score.
Sophomore Julian Dutton (Madison, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Lasell with an eight-save effort, while freshman Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, Mass.) made a career-high 12 stops in net for Suffolk as the Lasers outshot the Rams by a 19-12 margin for the match.
