Ernst & Young Teams With Suffolk University To Offer State and Local Tax Institute

11/15/2002

Suffolk University and Ernst & Young LLP have agreed to form Ernst & Young's State and Local Tax Institute at Suffolk's Sawyer School of Management.

The Ernst & Young's State and Local Tax Institute at Suffolk University will be part of the Sawyer School's Master's of Science in Taxation (MST) program. It will meet once a week for fourteen weeks and is designed for working tax professionals who want to pursue an advanced degree in taxation on a part-time basis. The Institute's first course, State and Local Tax, will begin in the spring of 2003 and will be taught by members of the firm's New England State and Local Tax Services Group.

Ernst & Young professionals will educate Suffolk MST students on numerous state and local tax practice matters, including a state's constitutional limitations on its ability to tax a person or business, and the complexities of state income, sales/use, and property taxes. With the creation of the State and Local Tax Institute, Ernst & Young becomes the first and only State and Local Tax practice in the New England area to form a permanent strategic association with a college or university.

"We are very excited about teaming with Ernst & Young," commented James P. Angelini, Ph.D, CPA, and Director of the MST Program at Suffolk's Sawyer School. "This course breaks new pedagogical ground by delivering cutting edge state and local tax education to our MST students in a professional setting. Ernst & Young is the clear industry leader in this area and, as the only AACSB International accredited MST program in Massachusetts, we are very proud that they have chosen our program for this collaboration."

"Suffolk University has long been regarded as one of the finest institutions in the New England region, and we are pleased to be offering this unique State and Local Taxation course to Suffolk students," said Jeff Saviano, leader of Ernst & Young's New England State Income Tax Practice and Director of the State and Local Tax Institute at Suffolk University. "At Ernst & Young, we offer our clients one of the most sophisticated state and local tax practices in the United States, and we are excited about sharing our experiences and point of view with the students, and future state and local tax professionals, at Suffolk University."
