6/19/2007

Associate Professor of Psychology Susan Orsillo and a colleague, Liz Roemer of the University of Massachusetts-Boston, have been awarded a five-year, $2 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health.

The psychologists will conduct a randomized control trial of an acceptance-based behavioral treatment (ABBT) for treating chronic anxiety disorders.

Acceptance-based behavior therapy integrates acceptance and mindfulness-based approaches with more traditionally behavioral approaches to therapy, such as psychoeducation, skills training, exposure therapy.

Orsillo has published more than 60 scientific articles and book chapters, edited two books on the assessment and treatment of anxiety, and presented more than 100 papers at national conferences. She serves as a consulting editor on the boards of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Behavior Therapy and Clinical Psychology Review.
