- NECN Puts Student Reporters on the Air

Suffolk University broadcast students are reporting live from the streets of downtown Boston on New England Cable News, with a new segment called “Suffolk in the City” that airs on the regional cable news network’s Morning Show.
NECN recently debuted the segments, in which University students interview passers-by in front of the Suffolk University/NECN Downtown Boston Studio on topical -- and sometimes quirky -- matters. The segments are bookended by live Q&As with NECN anchors and broadcast students. Person-on-the-street interview topics range from pop culture to politics and even the weather.
Unique opportunity for students
“'Suffolk in the City’ provides an extraordinary opportunity for our broadcast students,” said Robert Rosenthal, chair 
of Suffolk University’s Communication and Journalism Department. “Through our partnership with NECN and ‘The Morning Show,’ Suffolk students are reporting live and producing entertaining pieces seen throughout the New England region."
NECN looked at numerous audition reels before selecting three broadcast students as “Suffolk in the City” reporters.
- Sarah Murphy, of East Bridgewater, is a Suffolk senior and broadcast journalism major who also interns for Kiss 108’s “Matty in the Morning Show” and Dirty Water TV. Her goal is to work eventually as an entertainment reporter for the E! Network and host a talk show.
- Paul Davis Lyons is a senior majoring in communications with a concentration in film studies. The South Boston native has developed his own talk show program on the comic book industry, featuring artists, writers, and collectors.
- Andrew Rogers also is a senior, studying film and entrepreneurship. Rogers hosts a late-night Internet talk show called “The Leche Show,” which he’s worked on with Davis Lyons. Rogers was born in New York City, raised in Mexico City, and came to Suffolk University looking to develop television and film content for new media formats.
The segments air Tuesdays and Thursdays on “The Morning Show” in the 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. hour.
