Baseball Alumnus Wins First Pro Game
Former Suffolk University pitcher, Rony Mercado, won his professional debut with the Brockton Rox on Satuday, Aug. 9 as the Rox beat Ottawa, 4-1.
Mercado played baseball at Suffolk for four seasons 2003-2006 and was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference First team in 2006. He was second-team All-GNAC in 2004 and 2005.
Mercado finished with an 18-8 record at Suffolk. He had 26 starts, 41 appearances and pitched 207.1 innings for the Rams, helping Suffolk to the NCAA Regional Post-Season tournament in 2005.
