Suffolk's men's tennis team ended their 2007 season with a 5-4 loss to Emerson in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals Thursday, April 26. The Rams were the No. 2 seed in the tournament, beating No. 3 seeded Emerson in the regular season, 6-3.
Coach Stephen Counihan's team finished with an 8-3 overall record, 4-1 in GNAC.
The Rams won three singles matches against Emerson to go into the doubles play tied, 3-3. No. 2 singles player Chris Delisi won his match, 6-3, 6-2. Rodions Podgurbunskihs won his No. 3 singles match in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. No. 4 Jared Orkin won in two sets, 6-4, 6-1.
No. 1 singles player Pedro Soares lost his match, 7-5, 6-2. Garrett Freeman lost at No. 5, 7-5, 6-1 and No. 6 Greg Garrison lost his match 6-4, 6-2.
The Rams' No. 1 doubles team of Soares and Delisi won 8-3 to put Suffolk ahead 4-3 with two matches remaining. The score was tied again after the No. 3 doubles team of Freeman and Orkin were defeated, 8-2. The No. 2 doubles team, Podgurbunskihs and Garrison, rallied to pull to within two points, 6-4, but could not get any closer as they lost their match, 8-4, and Emerson claimed a spot in the GNAC Finals.
