Baseball Finishes 2nd in GNAC Standings

Suffolk, 11-3 in GNAC games, 19-10 overall and the No. 2 seed in the conference baseball tournament, will host a home playoff game on Thursday at Adams Field in Quincy, MA against Johnson & Wales, a GNAC play-in winner over Albertus Magnus on Tuesday.

Western New England, 12-2, takes the No. 1 seed and will host a playoff game on Thursday against Rivier.  Thursday's winning teams advance in the double elimination tournament, playing at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH April 28-29. Saturday's games begin at noon with the losing teams from Thursday games meeting for an elimination game. A 3 p.m. game features the winning teams from Thursday's contests. The noon game winner and the losing team from the 3 p.m. game meet in a 6 p.m. game on Saturday.

Sunday's Championship round begins at noon, followed by a 3 p.m. game if necessary.

Against Albertus Magnus on Sunday, Suffolk Junior Greg DiMarco (Newton, MA) pitched six innings in the 9-1 game one victory, giving up just three hits and one run with four walks and two strikeouts. DiMarco was one for three at the plate with two runs scored.

Freshman Tom Kelly (Milton, MA) came in to pitch the seventh inning, moving from right field. He was two-for-two at the plate with a triple and a double with three RBI. Sophomore catcher Kevin Silva (Hull, MA) was two for three at the plate with three RBI.

In game two, Albertus pitcher Mike Damiani held the Rams to just four hits, two from DiMarco and a double from Kelly. Damiani finished with five strikeouts and three walks in seven complete innings. Albertus Magnus' Steve Casosella hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to give Albertus a 5-0 lead.
