Softball Moves to 5-5 In GNAC Race

Suffolk's softball team came away with a 2-2 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference games this weekend, beating Emmanuel twice, but losing to Western New England twice to move to 5-5 in GNAC games, 6-14 overall.

The Rams host Brandeis in a single game Monday at Puopolo Field and then host Johnson & Wales in a GNAC doubleheader Tuesday at a field to be determined.

Coach Vicki Schull's team defeated Emmanuel 7-1 and 21-4, hitting six home runs in those games. Sophomore Ashley Gaboriault (Sutton, MA), freshman Marie Trainor (Winthrop, MA), freshman Valerie Liberatore (Chelsea, MA), sophomore Kellie Hurlock (East Lyme, CT) each hit one home run against Emmanuel. Sophomore Jess Ferreira (Cambridge,MA) hit two home runs.

The Rams dropped two games to Western New England, 6-3 and 18-11.  WNEC pitcher Laura Bower pitched seven complete innings for the win in Game 1. She gave up 8 hits and had nine strikeouts. Suffolk was led by Gaboriault with two hits in three at-bats, one double and one triple. Ferreira went the distance for the Rams in the loss.

In Game 2, Brittany DeGennaro finished with 5.1 innings pitched and the victory. WNEC had eight doubles in the game, scoring 18 runs on 20 hits. Suffolk scored 11 runs on 15 hits behind Jackie Zwicker's (South Easton, MA) 2 RBI on three hits in four at-bats. Trainor went 3 for 5 and Ferreira was two for three and picked up her second loss on the day.
