Suffolk's softball team won three straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference games behind sophomore pitcher Jess Ferreira. After losing two games to Norwich and the double header opener to Rivier, the Rams came back with three wins, the split with Rivier and two games over Daniel Webster.
Against Norwich, the Rams lost the first game, 5-4, pulling to within one run in the sixth inning after Ferreira hit the first of her two grand slams this week. Suffolk dropped the second game to Norwich, 10-6.
Suffolk split a double header at Rivier on Friday. They lost a close one in eight innings, 5-4, but rebounded nicely in game two winning 6-1.
On Sunday Ferreira pitched two gems against Daniel Webster, the first game a no-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. She gave up two runs in the first inning of game 2, but got out of a jam with back to back strikeouts and finished with seven in the game as the Rams won 12-0. In the second game, a 10-2 win, she put the Rams on top for good in the second inning with a grand slam over the left field fence that bounced into the Boston Harbor. Then in the fifth inning, she ripped a double into left center scoring two that ended the game.
Suffolk is now .500 in the GNAC at 3-3, 4-12 overall. The team is on the road this week with double headers at Wellesley and Emmanuel. This Saturday they’ll host Western New England for a double header starting at 12:00 p.m. at Puopolo Field.
