Men Drop GNAC Game to Daniel Webster in Overtime

NASHUA -- Tyler Smith’s (Moultonborough, N.H.) layup off an offensive rebound of teammate Warren Wiggins with one second left in overtime sent host Daniel Webster past Suffolk, 89-88 in a GNAC matchup Saturday.

Smith’s heads up play capped a wild back-and-forth affair that saw the Eagles halt a six-game slide as they improved to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in GNAC play and halted the Rams (5-10, 4-3 GNAC) two game win streak.

Jamie Bryant (Hartford, Conn.) led four players in double figures for the Eagles with a season high 29 points and added five assists, while Wiggins (Hartford) hit for a double double of 19 points and a monster 14 boards including six on the offensive glass. Toby Jiminez (Worcester, Mass.) knocked down 16 points, going 7 of 7 from the line, while Dan Haynes (Downsville, N.Y.) added 10 points and five assists.

John Murphy (North Reading, Mass.) knocked down a game high 20 points and added eight boards for the Rams, while Brad Schoonmaker (Southington, Conn.) added 19 and Alan Jaziri (Norwich, Conn.) scored 15.

Murphy had sent the game to overtime, sinking two free throws with 11 seconds left in regulation.

The Eagles renew their annual Nashua rivalry with a trip across town to Rivier College Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., while Suffolk hosts intracity rival Emerson Tuesday at 7:30.
