Dan Pencinger (Randolph, NJ)led Suffolk with 2 goals but the Rams came up short in a 4-3 loss to Tufts Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Walter Brown Arena on the Boston University campus.
Tufts opened the scoring on a power play in the first period and Suffolk’s John Rocchio (East Greenwich, RI) tied the game for the Rams just 20 seconds later, 1-1.
Later in the first period, Greg McCarthy scored the first of his two goals for Tufts, which opened the door for Pencinger to do the same for Suffolk just a minute later. The game remained tied 2-2 after the first period.
McCarthy would strike again for Tufts just a minute and a half into the second period, both of his goals were assisted by Kurt Hertzog. Tufts then took a two goal lead at 14:27 on a goal by Evan Crosby.
Pencinger added another goal to bring the Rams to within one before the final period.
Mark Grignon kept Suffolk in the game with 15 saves in the third period, and 21 in his 26 minutes of playing time. He held Tufts scoreless but the Rams were unable to come up with the equalizer in the end.
The loss dropped Suffolk to 3-11-1 overall. Their next game is against Framingham State on Saturday January 20, at 2:25 p.m. at The Walter Brown Arena.
