The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team turned a nine point halftime lead into an impressive 24 point victory, beating Albertus Magnus 87-63 Monday afternoon at Suffolk's Regan Gymnsium. The Rams snapped a three game losing streak, improving to 3-2 in the GNAC with the conference win and 4-9 overall.
John Murphy (North Reading, MA) led all scorers in the game with 21 points on 8-17 shooting. Bobby Leonzo led Albertus Magnus with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Rams led 38-29 at the half and broke the game wide open with a key 10-2 run to start the second half, giving themselves a 48-31 lead.
Albertus Magnus cut the Suffolk deficit to 50-36 with 15:56 remaining, however that was as close as Albertus Magnus would get for the rest of the game as Suffolk continued their second half rout taking an 80-50 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Brad Schoonmaker added 17 points in the game for Suffolk. Schoonmaker began his afternoon 4-4 from three before finishing 5-8 from behind the arc and 6-12 overall. Tim Meho also contributed dropping 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Meho was 7-8 from the field. Chris MacDonald also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Albertus Magnus is now 1-5 in the GNAC and 1-11 overall.
