• The Ultimate Freshman Year Challenge

Cedric Jennings to speak on overcoming obstacles.

1 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006
C. Walsh Theatre

Cedric Jennings was an honors student at a crime-infested high school in inner-city Washington, D.C.  The summer after his junior year in high school, Cedric attended a program for minorities at MIT, and then went on to attend Brown University.

Jennings overcame countless obstacles, and the book, A Hope in the Unseen, by Wall Street Journalist Ron Suskind, chronicles his journey through his freshmen year in college.

A Hope in the Unseen is required reading for all SU101 students.  Students will explore topics such as family relationships, academic success, affirmative action, fitting in, and transitioning to college.

Jennings will have dinner with students from the Bird Street Community Center who are participating in Suffolk's "Connections to College" program. Suffolk's partnership with Bird Street Community Center and Access Boston gives college-bound Boston high school students the tools they need to pursue higher education.

The Cedric Jennings lecture is open to the entire Suffolk Community.
