Women’s Tennis Player of the Year


Suffolk’s No. 1 women’s singles player Jennifer Nelson was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year for 2006, her second consecutive Player of the Year award.

Nelson led the conference at No. 1 singles with a 7-1 record in GNAC matches at the No. 1 singles spot. Nelson was 11-1 overall in singles and 7-3 in doubles matches this season.

The junior from Newburyport was also named Player of the Year for 2005 as a sophomore, with an 8-0 GNAC record in 2005.

Nelson led Suffolk to the GNAC semifinals after beating Johnson and Wales 8-1 in the quarterfinals. The Rams lost to eventual GNAC champion Simmons in the semifinals, 7-2.
