A Conversation on the Constitution

The Law School community will commemorate Constitution Day with a panel discussion focusing on the topic of judicial independence.

The panelists are Distinguished Visiting Professor Akhil Amar; Professor Joseph Cronin, who will serve as moderator; and Professor Renée Landers.

The program will begin with a film of U.S. Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer and Anthony Kennedy and then-Justice Sandra Day O’Connor discussing the need for an independent judiciary. The film presentation addresses the importance of judicial independence in the U.S. constitutional system and highlights the justices’ views regarding threats to judicial independence.

Following the film presentation, panelists will review and discuss the comments of the Supreme Court justices regarding the necessity of  judicial independence and the existing safeguards provided by the Constitution.
